The brief was to create an artwork on a fence. The aim being to distract residents from the eyesore of abandoned land it surrounded.
Materials needed to be weather resistant as the work was expected to be in situ for two years. To meet this criteria I repurposed remnants of plastic banners that were destined for landfill. This meant I had no control over colours, but I think I got lucky.
Work began by measuring the fence and counting all the spaces. I drew up a grid and then worked on designs.
The second phase involved cutting the banner remnants into strips (so many strips). I then wove them into the fence following by charts.
Work place over two weeks in all weathers.
