Some people love social media. I’m not one of them.

I was thinking about how social media has changed the world when the idea for this piece took hold. I’ve tried to include misinformation, general ignorance, blatant lies and deliberate deletions as a nod to the virtual landscape.

The Twitter logo has been utilised as it is both an instantly recognisable social media icon, but also now outdated, as much of the information spewed out by the algorithms is.

A half tone filter was also used. This filter makes things black or white, eliminating all grey areas. This represents the polarisation of opinion these platforms seem to generate.

From idea to completion this piece took around two years to realise as I developed the skills to create the movement I wanted within the artwork whilst also avoiding long periods of time spent at the computer. It went through many testing phases and epic fails before reaching this point.

I originally added in a island named Natlantis, but removed it as it seemed insignificant and out of place.
